Shameless food blog

OK, so this is jumping the gun, out of sequence, pushy.  There are other blogs still to be written - shopping, Nevsky Prospekt, parks, galleries, other things...

We had dinner at Duo Gastrobar tonight.  It's a bit of a local phenomenon if the various apps are to be believed.  You have to book; you must be out in an hour; it's terrific.

Yes, we had to book.  No, they let us stay more than an hour.  Yes, it's terrific.

We had to book for 6pm tonight - 6pm!  When we arrived the place was humming - clearly others had happily opted for 5, or 5.30.  Anyway, we had walked our legs off at the Hermitage all day.  We were hungry.  It was time.

G had the beef tartare with morelles and garlic aioli.  I had serious food envy on sight.  On taste it was more serious.  G kindly shared...  I love that man.

I ordered the tuna ceviche.  More asian in flavour; to be honest the cucumber could have been slightly finer, slightly less.  But still seriously yum.

Main course:  I had the pasta with duck leg.  Fettucine, I guess.  The menu, seriously, said pasta.  It was gummy (in a good way), al dente, cheesy (but not too much), rich and only suitable to share a little bit.  It was important that I ate most of it.  I did.

G had the beef, rare, with spinach.  It is now a bucket list thing for him to learn a great jus.  He was so happy.  He only shared a tiny piece.  I was grateful.  And also very happy with my duck.

Here is the whole menu.  We are going back tomorrow.

Espresso in the heaviest bottomed glass.  Mwah.

We were in at six.  Out before 7.30.  Didn't matter.  Loved it.  Shut up.
